Scholarships for Ukrainian plant pathologists

Attention scientists from Ukraine!

International Society for Plant Pathology (ISPP) in cooperation with Polish Phytopathological Society (PPS) offer short-term scientific scholarships (1-3 months) for cooperation between a scientist from Ukraine and a research team in Poland, for the work in a Polish laboratory. Financial support for cooperation (ISPP Resilience Bursary) will be granted to plant pathologists from Ukraine who plan the scientific internship in the Polish team dealing with phytopathology. By ‘phytopathology’ we mean broadly understood scientific works and activities related to plant diseases, pathogens and plant protection, having a direct relationship with phytopathology.

Scholarships may be awarded to scientists employed in research and academic institutions as well as other (consulting, governmental, agro-industry) institutions in Ukraine who are currently employed or by the researchers who were employed on 24 February 2022 but left Ukraine after February 24, 2022 as a result of Russia's aggression. PhD students are also eligible to obtain the scholarships.

In order to obtain funding for the internship, the following documents should be submitted to the President of the Polish Phytopathological Society (Prof. Małgorzata Mańka) and sent to the following address: ptfit@up.poznan.pl

1. Application for a scholarship for a scientist from Ukraine

2. CV of a scientist from Ukraine with emphasis on research related to phytopathology

3. List of publications of a scientist from Ukraine

4. Confirmation of research supervision by a scientist from Poland

We attach templates of the above-mentioned documents, but they can also be submitted in a different form, provided that the basic information is included. If you wish to submit an application, but do not have contact with laboratories in Poland, we may be able to provide assistance in finding a place. If you have any questions, please contact the President of the Polish Phytopathological Society (mmanka@up.poznan.pl) or the Secretary of the Polish Phytopathological Society (Assoc. Prof. Dorota Szopińska dorota.szopinska@up.poznan.pl). Documents are considered by the Scientific Cooperation Committee of PPS, and by the Management Board in the form of a resolution, after a secret ballot. Offers of support will depend on funds being available. The decisions of the Management Board will be final and no correspondence will be entered into. .

The scholarships are the equivalent of $ 1,000 per month paid in PLN. Paying the tax is the responsibility of the trainee. The amount of the scholarship is fixed and is not increased by the tax amount. The scholarship is paid one week after the start of a scholarship. In reasonable cases the scholarship can last up to 3 months, in this case the funds are paid in monthly instalments, after the approval of the previous month’s achievements. Before starting the training, the intern, the host institution, and the Polish Phytopathological Society sign a tripartite agreement according to the attached template (Annex 5).

We encourage you to apply and use the ISPP Resilience Bursary.
