Season of Selling Potatoes for Human Consumption in the Context of Profitability of Their Production
Abstract
Economic results of potatoes cultivation meant for human consumption were evaluated during the two-year scientific surveys. The research also focused on the impact on the farmer's decision concerning the profitability of potatoes sales. The economic measures taken into consideration were: the level of income from the activity without subsidies both in nominal and real terms as well as profitability index. The surveys were conducted in 2005 and 2008 on the same sample of farms. Accounts were performed in two options, in I option it was assumed that all production was to be sold in the year of the crop, while in II - only the actual quantity of potatoes. In the first case, rate of the profitability was: in 2005 -146.0%, in 2008 - 147.9%, while in the second, respectively: 151.1 and 141.2%. The way of allocating harvests have influenced the results, but in both years the cultivation of potatoes for human consumption was income activity.
